Get Into The Act: Billy Bauer Band Morning Call Go Guide Get Into The Act: Billy Bauer Band An acoustic guitar/violin duo isn't something you see every day in the clubs of the Lehigh Valley. But it's an interestingly potent combo, as a listen to the Billy Bauer Band will reveal. Bauer is a fine singer-songwriter with his acoustic guitar alone, his sound evocative of Dave Matthews, whose CD with Tim Reynolds, ''Live at Luther College,'' inspired him to pick up the guitar for the first time just six years ago. Chris Lorenzetti adds intensity on violin, sometimes taking lead with jammin' solos. ''He brings that edge that I couldn't bring myself,'' says Bauer. Bauer and Lorenzetti are friends from Bethlehem Catholic High School. Lorenzetti, a violin and piano teacher and classical musician, had never dabbled in rock before Bauer asked him to join him. But the music fit and the two recorded a CD, ''The Best of Both Worlds.'' Its 10 tracks include ''Happy Valley,'' a drinking song kind of ode to Penn State, where Bauer is a senior, and ''Run or Hide'' and ''55,'' a one-two punch of Matthews-ish material with hopeful messages about putting things in perspective. ''Run or Hide'' and ''55'' return on ''Another Day is Coming,'' a CD with a full band that also includes drummer Zach Martin and bassist Steve Zalalas and is scheduled for release at the end of November. The band is getting some attention — it's a finalist in the Original Sessions Band Search and will play the CMJ Music Marathon showcase in New York Nov. 4.
